One way conversation.

This firm seemed pretty good, said the right things. They worked hard on the day and dropped off plenty of boxes before the move.
The head office do not ring you back, as a rule the person you need will be on the phone, “we will call you back” they never do. If something goes wrong, as did in our case, they deny responsibility, leaving you with the cost after having paid nearly 2K for the move, effectively your word against theirs, ergo, you are the liar.
Had hoped to use them again after we move from this rental property but not if it means dealing with their head office staff.
I would not recommend and won’t be using again.

Official company response

I am sorry that Heather was dissatisfied but I see we have been awarded three stars so clearly it wasn't a complete disaster.

The dispute/reason for dissatisfaction seems to revolve around a damaged window in the property. As part of our procedures, we check the condition of the property before and after delivery and ask the customer to countersign the report. This was done and no damage was noted. After we had left, Heather telephoned to say she had found the damaged window. We interviewed the staff who say they didn't damage the window so there seemed to us to be three possibilities.

1) The window was damaged possibly by the previous owner/their removers and not noted by us or Heather before unloading or after unloading.

2) The staff did do the damage and haven't owned up to it.

3) The damage happened after we left.

Based upon the written, signed information and what the staff said, we said to Heather, "Sorry, not us".

We issued a copy of our Complaints Procedure to Heather which provides for escalation in the event that she doesn't like the original decision which she clearly didn't on this occasion. I note, however, at the time of posting this reply that she has not asked for escalation but, of course, that opportunity remains open.

Moving a short distance in Chippenham.

This was not a straightforward move, but not particularly difficult. In January this year I used GB Cirencester to move a very short distance. However I required 6 containers to go into store because the house I was buying needed renovating to include rewiring so I needed to keep the rooms as clear as possible. GB were required to move the garden/shed/garage stuff straight to the new house, as well as a minimal amount of personal belongings to tide me over. I was persuaded to use GB although they were slightly more expensive than other quotes because of the promises regarding the care of items in storage and that they "trained their staff". I asked for an entire packing service.
The team appeared promptly (one older man and three young) and were cheerful, but the first thing one of them did was to move a gateleg table without checking it. There is a cupboard under the table where I kept some glassware. One item was immediately broken. They were very apologetic and said they would take the pieces back to the depot and report it. They did not do this but when I contacted the office, I was offered a payment to reimburse. Of course, this is not the point since the particular item was irreplaceable for sentimental reasons. It appeared to me that the younger members of the team were in a terrific hurry and not taking much care while the older member was more considerate and careful. The leader of the team was one of the young men. I did not find their attitude very relaxing.
I had clearly marked the items that were to go straight to the new house, but once the team had gone off to storage, it became clear that several items were missing. The most important item being a phone with contact details on it. These items appeared when the boxes came out of storage, still clearly marked not to go to storage!
The day booked for the stored items to be returned was the day we had a heavy snowfall which had been forecast the day before. I was in temporary accommodation and so did not want to make the journey if the team were not going to turn up. I rang the office the day before and was told that they would check the situation in the morning and if the team decided not to come, they would let me know. They were due at 8.30 and as I had not heard anything by 8 I prepared to set out. Just before leaving I rang the office and was told that the team had decided very early that morning not to come and one of them was supposed to ring me. By this time I had dug my car out and wrapped up for the journey which I decided to chance because luckily I have 4-wheel drive. The girl in the office said she would find out what had happened to my phone call and when she rang back I was told their excuse was they had not been able to get through. Bearing in mind that I was able to make and receive calls to/from everyone else that morning, I wonder what their problem was other than a wish not to get out of bed.
The stored items were delivered in March and I was hoping it would be a different team but no. I was not happy with them because of the snow fiasco but bit my tongue and just let them get on with it. Only two of the young men arrived this time with the same older man who, again, struck me as much more caring. Owing to the ongoing renovations, I am still gradually unpacking as the rooms are prepared. This means I am too late to make a claim against GB on their insurance. Quite a few items have been broken/damaged, not the least of which is a valuable wall clock which had its spring broken by not being packed correctly. Fortunately I have managed to get this repaired for only £50 but other items are irreplaceable because either their value is sentimental or they are just not available any more. Among the broken items were a miniature glass horse I have had since I was at primary school which was placed in the box with no protection and a leg had snapped off, but no sign of the leg in the box, and an electric heater with one foot missing (again, no sign of the missing part).
The latest item in a long line is a glass jug which I unpacked this morning to find it had been put in the carton with no protective wrapping at all and has a large crack in it. I have reached the stage now where I expect at least one item in every box to be damaged in some way.
I am really disappointed with GB Liners as I thought I was using a professional removal company but I will never use them again and certainly cannot recommend them. Their lack of care for my items is shocking and even when I raised things with the removal team leader, he did not seem bothered. I raised the problem of the items coming out of storage that should not have gone into storage in the first place, such as the phone, he said “Oh yea I heard something about that” and no mention of an apology. By the way, the phone no longer works, so it was clearly not stored correctly either.

Official company response

We are always disappointed to hear of a dissatisfied customer and Alison is clearly one. I am sure the dissatisfaction has reason but we do feel a little harshly treated and only one side of the story has been told.

We are clearly sorry if the impetuosity of youth means the staff didn't check under the table for anything like a cupboard. I'm not sure the some of our senior staff would either. Who puts a cupboard under a table? It is not true to say that the green flower vase was not reported - it is noted on the worksheet. I don't think there is any denying that a phone and possibly some other goods ended up in store instead of at the new address. Just how well the stuff was marked for each destination, I have no idea but I see we did offer to unstow the storage goods and find the phone and we made an allowance of £79 off the out-of-store move in relation to this issue. There is no mention of that whatsoever!

Then, of course, there is the move from store and the non-phone call. It was a day when Highways England recommended only essential travel. Alison says she has a four wheel drive car and we have a two wheel drive lorry. I am slightly surprised that she thought we could or should get the goods delivered on that day. I note she gives no credence to our story that we couldn't get our phone call through and makes unsubstantiated allegations about the staff staying in bed.

Finally, Alison comments on the quality of some of the packing and her ability to claim as she discovered the damage outside the seven day time limit. Uniquely in the UK moving industry (as far as I know), we do offer customers the opportunity to extend the time limit for claims from 7 to 28 days. Alison didn't take up this option and obviously goods shouldn't be damaged anyway but to complain about the time limit seems a little harsh.

Avoid at All Cost.

AVOID AVOID AND AVOID this arrogant and ignorant company I never had to deal with a buisness that does care that little about their customers and is arrogant thinking they are the best and only company can do removals. How wrong they are. We moved multiple times across Europe ourself and our staff. After reading the reviews I thought I try them as our usual company we use is fully booked for the period we require the move of two housholds. I requested a quote for one of them and my first call with a agent from gb liners was so unprofessional and rude I decided to email the office directly raising my concern about it and the only response was saying more less well go with a other company if you don't like my staff instead of calling me and have a chat about it and discuss my quote. I replied again saying that this response reflects the customer service from the first call and I will look for another company that cares more about their customer than gb liners. The respond was :
I doubt it, but you clearly know best.

Rob Bartup | Managing Director | GB Liners Ltd

If you don't care about customer service and want to be contacted by rude unprofessional arrogant company that you want to give your money for a service they offer GB liners is the best company to go with. However if you don't want to be treated like a child and care about customer service and professional staff moving your good don't use them.

London to San Fran - Avoid these Liars.

We made a massive move from London to San Francisco, with my wife 6 months pregnant at the time. With such high expectations and the most expensive fees we chose GB Liners in hope to alleviate stress for a quick and painless move. Unfortunately the move was far from perfect. Our items arrived 12.5weeks after they were taken well above the 8-9week window we were sold. As soon as we started the question, the charm of the staff evaporated. Other reviewers who experienced their arrogance are not wrong. They state they are the number 1 rated by BAR but outside of the (UK), here in the US they have a poor reputation. If only we had known - if you’re moving outside of the (UK) avoid these cowboys.

For the US they use another provider - termed a partner. Several of our items arrived scratched. An old photo with shattered glass and the delivery team (1 bloke and 2 adolescences) refused to re-assemble furniture expecting myself and my now term wife to do it.

When we complained we were met with - we are sorry you’re not happy but it’s not our fault, we are the best everyone tells us. Having paid up front we have no move, but it’s not often you make the effort of writing a review so I hope for those considering moving abroad you consider this. Being a surgeon and my wife a partner in consultancy we have no interest other than sharing the truth and hope others are saved from these con men.

For the money, time and hassle I would think carefully especially for an international move I would never recommend GB Liners - misleading, up selling, arrogant and over priced. Ones to avoid for sure.

Long-distance move from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire to Edinburgh, Midlothian

Move to rental accommodation.

The quote was detailed and thorough. Plenty of boxes dropped off beforehand; we packed the non-breakables. The move actually took 3 days; it was a move from a good size detached house in Aberdeen to a smaller rented cottage in the country south of Edinburgh. The crew arrived promptly and packed the breakables well. It took a day and a half to load the lorry, and then a full day at the other end to unload. We were amazed at how they managed to squeeze everything into the lorry, even plant tubs. Crew were careful, polite, professional and very cheerful despite the hot weather. Everything arrived in one piece. Would definitely recommend.

Move.

Attentive and professional service throughout, from initial estimate right through to final delivery. Marginally not the cheapest quote but a willingness to be flexible in discussing arrangements made them the best deal for us, in contrast to the take-it-or-leave-it approach of others. Ultimately, though, the moving experience all depends on the abilities and the attitude of the team loading, driving and unloading the van; we couldn't have hoped for a better, friendlier, more flexible crew.

Not happy !!

Although I used this removal company about 18 months ago, when at the time I wasn't very happy with the service provided (but stupidly didn't complain), it was only 2 weeks ago when I moved house again that their appalling man-handling and knowledge of my expensive solid oak furniture has become apparent.

Going back 2 years when I was first looking for a removal company, the Sales rep that came out to the house "sold" me GB Liners on the fact that due to me having OCD (contamination related), the removal guys would be all very clean and smartly dressed. The glossy brochure showed the men wearing corporate polo shirts and all looking smart. I didn't actually end up using GBL for this first move as the estate agent that sold our marital home put me onto another removal company who was about £150 cheaper.

However, for my next move some 7 months later when my rental hadn't worked out, GBL was my one and only call since I wasn't impressed with the previous removal company that I used. Although the removal itself went OK, my main complaint on the day with GBL was that the 3 guys weren't anywhere near smart, infact the older man compared very close to Compo from Last of the Summer Wine !! Although very agile and still perfectly capable, "Compo" must've been around 60, there was foreign (Polish/Czech/Romanian??) guy who didn't speak much English and finally a "normal" English guy. It is now the Eastern European guy that has caused the 1 star rating as completely unbeknown to me until 2 weeks ago when I moved again, he has ruined a couple of pieces of my oak furniture by "botching" it together when re-assembling it 18 months ago. Due to the fact that my furniture was often too big and heavy, a lot of it had to be dismantled (1 double bed, 2 single beds, a dining room table and a double wardrobe). One of the single beds wasn't reassembled correctly (which I only found out about 12 months after my move and hence too late to complain about anyway) but my main aggravation was the reassembly of my double wardrobe. The young lad that reassembled it on my last move 2 weeks ago showed me how GBL had used the wrong screws (too long) and therefore made holes all over in the top and bottom of my wardrobe or else had tightened the screws so tight that they had been rounded off. For this section of my wardrobe, the guys 2 weeks ago had to leave 2 sections of my wardrobe attached together and struggle with it.

For these reasons, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GB LINERS to anyone !!

Lost goods.

I was reasonably satisfied with the GB Liners (Cheltenham) at the time of the move. It was a difficult large move. My complaint is that they lost a Ebac Dehumidier worth about £200.00. As I was downsizing and my belongings were "stored" in the house I moved to, I could not say anything until I had checked everything which I have finally done. I did not want to accuse them unfairly. Having now gone through everything the Ebac Dehumidier is definitely missing and as there was no storage involved I can only assume it was 'lost' between the house I moved from to the house I moved to!! They moved me again (Bristol Depot) from the rented house to the house I purchased and felt that their attitude was not as good as it could have been and they managed to scratch my polished dining room table. When mentioning it to the office they said it could have been done on the first move so were not responsible.

Smooth and carefully planned move.

GB Liners are the company you can have total confidence in, particularly given the stress associated with moving to a new home some distance away. The whole team were professional efficient and courteous and everything was planned with every detail considered including perfect timings on collection and delivery. Great care was shown by the delivery team in placing all our possessions exactly where we wanted them and everything in perfect condition, nothing it seems was too much trouble, I would recommend GB Liners to anyone who wants a smooth and hassle free move.

Thanks, GB Liners!!

All the team were a pleasure to deal with, from our initial contact with the ladies in the office, Emma & Lynn, via David who came to do the estimate, through to the guys who did the removal, Martin & colleagues. Easy to contact, and we liked their flexibility during a very stressful house selling process! In the end we had to move quite quickly, but it all worked like clockwork - boxes arrived on time, and then the removal team arrived early and worked very efficiently, and could not have been more helpful and pleasant - so good on a long-distance move. All our belongings arrived undamaged, and the guys were very good at recommending where to put everything in a smaller rental property. This is the third time we have used GB Liners, and we shall be using them again to move into our final house once we have found it - so that says it all.

Excellent.

I would not hesitate to recommend this company. The service was efficient, responsive and attentive and the admin side kept in touch prior to the move answering my questions quickly and helpfully. I was given a packing guide and boxes and tape were provided. Unwanted boxes were collected later at my convenience.
The move was local but it was a long day with awkward access to my new property and a drop off in two places. Throughout the challenges we encountered, including rain and snow, the crew retained their good humour and positive attitude. They kept me sane, moved things around where needed, put up the beds and worked miracles getting things up a tiny staircase. I would definitely use GB Liners again although I sincerely hope I won’t be moving again from a good while!

Removal to store / storage / delivery to address.

I am not one to write reviews however I am moved to in this instance.

We had GB liners remove our belongings to store, store them for 9 months then deliver them to our new address. They are APPALLING. Do not use them.

They insist on payment up front for removal then offer poor service. Unflexable staff. Nobody willing to make a decision. Had to come on 2 seperate days as they had not hired enough removal staff.

Once they have your belongings in store they wheel out the extra costs. We were invoiced £200 just to look through our belongings while in store. (Check the VERY small print of the T+Cs)

For delivery they want extra money for delivering to more than ground and 1st floor that isn't mentioned before they have your belongings. They want payment in full upfront - again. Meaning that poor service is almost guaranteed.

All in all a very bad experience I hope to spare others of this.

Don't use GB liners when moving to USA.

The company GB Liners works with for removals to
USA is terrible. The experience has been a hassle, disorganized and poor. I even got an additional, unexpected $500 USD charge! Unfortunately when I made GB Liners aware of it, they did nothing. I don't recommend using GB Liners for moves to USA.

I booked by move through GB liners, since I previously had a move from Edinburgh to Manchester, that was very smooth.
This time it's been different. The entire process in the UK was great, however once my goods arrived to US, GB Liners handed off everything to a USA company called Schumacher Logistics and it's been a disastrous experience.

I'm ignoring the fact of customs delays (took 5 months to receive my goods instead of the 3 I was expecting). The first problem was scheduling the arrival of my goods. My apartment building requires to pre-book the elevator and parking space for trucks, so even as I asked multiple times Schumacher to let me know in advance the day and time of the move, they totally ignored it. I
received a call on the evening of a Sunday, telling me my goods were going to be delivered the next day (Monday) between 1PM-4PM. At that time the leasing office was already closed, so I couldn't even check. Also, I didn't have the opportunity to plan properly being away from work. I alerted the movers of this
issue, but they completely ignored it. On Monday, I received a call at 10AM, from the moving company saying they were already at my apartment (so not even the time they told me the day before!). Luckily I work 15 mins away, so I came to my building, had to discuss with the building manager, to let us make the move without appointment. They kindly acceded, as luckily the person who had reserved it, hadn't shown up.

I thought that was the end of it, however a month later, I'm receiving a bill of $500 USD from this company, stating they had to "shuttle" my goods to my apartment. I don't even know what that means. The movers parked in my building, loaded all my stuff in a single elevator ride and made 4 trips from
elevator to apartment. I'm still in the process of disputing this charge.

This last part of the move has been bad. I would have expected GB Liners to be more helpful, but they've completely disappeared and is this new company (Schumacher) that keeps emailing me and calling to charge me more money. This
reflects very poorly on GB Liners. I strongly suggest you avoid GB liners for removals to USA.

Stressfree, hassle free move.

We booked GB liners to move us from Edinburgh to Munich after a company we used before (and liked) let us down with high quotes and no communication to help us come up with alternative solutions. I put my move into a search site and got an immediate response from GB Liners. I could tell from the first phone call that they knew what they were doing and that the cared about coming up with a solution. They helped us revise our plan to one that was affordable for us; in fact, every call and/or email was answered quickly and I really felt like I was an important client, even with our small move. When it came time to pack in Edinburgh the movers were prompt, friendly and efficient. They cared about our belongings, treated them with respect and used high quality materials to protect them. Instead of a direct move, we saved money by having our load go into storage for a few weeks (which suited our timeline) before having it delivered to our self store unit in Munich. The moving date was left open but we quickly got a call from GB Liners that a date was available just days after we arrived in Munich - BONUS - it was a Saturday!! Once again the delivery guys were early, friendly, efficient and happy to help us neatly fit everything into our storage unit. Moving is VERY stressful but GB Liners made it easy and even fun. Also worth noting, all segments of the move were carried out by GB Liners, we had no external contractors.

Removal from central London to Durham, UK.

Am pleased to recommend GB Liners: they gave me a prompt estimate the day following my initial request. The quote was clear and concise and a little under other estimates I had obtained. The day of the removal they were early, had organised the parking and the team packed and wrapped the furniture of my flat carefully and quickly. It was an impressively efficient operation. The men were friendly and courteous. The delivery was made a week or so later again spot on time, and with another friendly, competent team, unpacking and positioning the furniture as requested. The whole removal could not have been better!

I am pleased to recommend GB Liners. They moved my mum from France back to the UK, held her property in store for a few months and then moved her things back when she found a place here.
We found everyone in the office very easy to contact and speak to. The removal teams were very good, polite and professional. On the move from France they packed all loose items in boxes and noted everything. My mum had used a different firm for the move to France a few years ago and she was very impressed with the superior service from GB Liners.

Bad experience: overpriced and poor service.

I had a really poor experience with them moving from London to the US. I had to decide between air freight (very expensive) and sea (cheaper, but takes much longer), and even though I didn't have many possessions, sea freight was quite a bit cheaper..at least based on the initial estimate provided by GB Liners. It is very difficult to anticipate exactly how many boxes (cubic footage, weight in kg, etc.) you are going to have, but I did my best, and deliberately overestimated how much I had. If I had *underestimated* things, GB Liners would have penalized me for it: they adjust your bill and then some to account for a weight or size greater than the estimate you provide. As it would turn out, I had about 10% *less* than I had estimated to GB Liners, and despite my items taking up less space and weight, they refused to refund me the difference. I found this practice to be very sleazy. This was on top of being several hours late to pick up my possessions on a very stressful morning (when I had to vacate my flat). In addition, the company that was contracted to deliver my items to my new address got a parking ticket -- as if this was my fault? -- and they billed me for this. It would have been cheaper, far faster (immediately vs 6 weeks), and way easier if I had just paid the airline when I flew home for each additional box I had. I would highly recommend you try that route if you don't have too many possessions. To pay more than 100GBP per box for this level of service is absurd.

Don't label items, bad liability situation. Definitely avoid

This is my review of my recent international move with these guys. The reviews on this site much more clearly tally up with my experience than the other review sites. So I'd pay more attention to this site if you're a reader here.

There's little point in going into every single detail of what's been a miserable few months, so I won't, but here are the specifics I'd warn anybody considering using these guys about

1. They do NOT label your items. We were assured our items would be labelled and trackable throughout the entire storage and transport path. We were shipped labels, which we gave to the packers as we were told to do. They did not fix the labels, so our items were shipped across to the other side of the world with no identifying marks on them. When I repeatedly pointed this out I was told "we use a bingo sheet to count in boxes using the numbers written on them". So they write on each box 1->whatever, and they LITERALLY TICK A BIT OF PAPER. No scanning, no RFID nothing. When our items arrived in Australia this resulted in our delivery being split and shipped to different locations since, when customs checked our boxes, they were unable to confirm whos they were so they guessed. We also lost at least two boxes, at least on their "bingo sheet" but we feel we are probably missing several more. So much for their "bingo sheet" being an infallible manner of tracking items. Terrible terrible behaviour for a logistics firm shipping people's personal belongings internationally. A paper bingo sheet. Seriously.

2. The liability is intentionally set up to favour gb liners. This was explained to us very poorly, so here it is more clearly for others. You receive a document you have to complete listing all your items, and it asks you to list out items over £500 in value separately. The amount for each item type is averaged. So, lets say you have 10 paintings. One worth £410, and 9 worth £10. Total value £500. The most you can claim for the £410 one is £50, £500/10, and the most you can claim for the £10 is £10, less depreciation. Therefore their liability is actually only £140, less depreciation. So to get what you actually should for the main painting your liability amount would need to be £4100, raising costs massively, and you could STILL only claim £10 less depreciation for the smaller items since that's what you're receipted for. Disgusting behaviour. Watch this, it's underhand, it inflates the liability and their ability to lift the price, exponentially the number of items you have too. Very sneaky.

3. No tracking of documentation. We completed all documentation and signed all contracts in person with the agent. He took all documentation with him, which he shouldn't have done we found out later, and then promptly left the business. Therefore GB Liners did not actually have a copy of our documents. They wouldn't ship or release our items until they had those documents so we had to resign all new documents and somehow remember exactly what we had packed and hadn't packed a year after we left home for Australia. This compounded the issue with liability no doubt. We spent a HUGE amount of time completing that manifest before it shipped. There's no way we could have remembered it all. I made that clear to them when they forced us to sign new documents. Didn't matter though, when it came to claim.

4. The packing experience. They did NOT give us opportunity to monitor the packing. We wanted to pack things ourselves, but we were told we couldn't do that or it would limit their liability (ironic really, telling us that they didn't believe they would take the care they would to ship). So we allowed them to pack. In the end they descended on our house with about 4 people who were all packing in a very rushed manner. My wife, who was the only person available, could not see what was packed, how it was packed, or even count in the items. This I think, coupled with the lack of ANY labels or markings on our boxes was the root cause of the problem.

5. Their partner relationships are NOT relationships. We ended up in a finger pointing exercise between GB and the "partner", who I won't name as I believe them blameless. Keeping it short, there is no relationship there, I think they googled them.

All in all, we lost around £2500 worth of items, including depreciation, and a huge amount of these were just token values we ascribed to things, things with personal attachment that can NEVER be replaced. GB Liners paid us £1100 (less their £50 deductible, of course. It's not insurance, it's liability, but it somehow has a deductible). As disgusting as that offer is, it doesn't really compare to the heartbreak we, especially my wife, feel at the loss of our items and the complete and total disregard of the importance of the job they do and the belongings they carry. We took the money, we had no choice, but if I can save one person from the pain we've had.

A logistics and shipping firm that don't label boxes.

International move from Bromyard, Herefordshire to , ON

International Move.

I can just speak from my personal perspective and I would highly recommend this company (branch) for your move.

Emma was my coordinator and I can only say she was excellent. She made an effort to get my business, answered all of my questions and was very patient with some of them. Very good customer service.

The items are still in transit, so I can't speak for the customer service if I have an issue, but in the set up and shipping, Emma has made it an easy experience.

Never accept liability

After an awful experience with GB Liners, I trawled through its TrustPilot reviews and all bad ones have one thing in common - the sarcastic responses from the owner never ever admit liability. Warning you are not insured, so when something goes wrong, no matter what the salesperson has told you, it is the owner of the company that acts as judge and jury and he always says “not our fault”. We’ve had to take them to court - appalling!

House moving.

We were extremely impressed with GB Liners. Their men were very professional, friendly and put us at ease. We had done our own packing but the sofas etc. they had to cover were done thoroughly so no damage could possibly be caused. They worked very quickly, so much so that we weren't quite ready to go when they were! when we arrived at our new house, again, they worked really hard and quickly and had us settled in in no time. They were also very helpful with re-moving items which we had wrongly told them to put in certain rooms! they even put together my son's bed! would absolutely recommend them to anyone!
